DESIGNER
Montreal Fashion Designer Lucy Medeiros, owner and founder of Roxy and Lulu, was born and raised in the heart of Montreal in a traditional European family. Growing up with both her parents working in the needle trade influenced her to create lavish garments for her Barbies as a child. Later in life, it only seemed natural for her to go into the same line of business that influenced her as a young girl.
Upon graduating from the Fashion Design program at Lasalle College in Montreal in 1984, she landed her first job with a local Junior wear company. With a creative mind and an eagerness to learn, she gained experience and wisdom. Throughout her career, she went on to work with various Canadian and US major retailers and manufacturers in Ladies ' and Men’s wear as a designer and merchandiser.
After her first child was born, Lucy discovered a passion for children’s wear, where she spent the ten following years of her career designing and merchandising infant and childrenswear, including junior girls, for different local companies and brands such as La Senza Girl.
In 2004, Lucy would have a life-changing experience leading her onto the path to where she strives today, when a little blonde female Yorkie named Roxy came into her life and captured her heart. It wasn’t too long after that another furry member was added to the family, a male Yorkie named Kiko. Roxy and Kiko as her inspirations, it only seemed natural to move her career in a pet-related direction.
At the end of 2006, “Roxy and Lulu” was born, naming the company after Roxy, who was her inspiration for starting her business, and LuLu, her childhood nickname. Lucy spent the first few years in the pet industry making her mark designing and creating different lines of handmade Swarovski crystal dog collars and matching leads.
August 2008 was the official launch of her doggy wear line at Pet Fashion Week in New York City, a trade show open strictly to industry buyers and media. Her Urban Glam clothing line entitled “Urban Doggie Wear", inspired by the city street fashions she encountered every day was a hit with US retailers.
In January 2011, Lucy once again expanded the Roxy and Lulu brand into a Luxury lifestyle brand of high pet fashion under the label 'RL COUTURE - by LUCY MEDEIROS'. This line mainly focuses on upscale dog dresses, harness vests, and lavish coats for both boys and girls. All the garments are handcrafted, created with luxurious fabrics such as silks, velvets, taffetas, brocades, and satins, with embellishments of Swarovski Crystal Elements.
Taking her many years of fashion experience and applying them to a different animal has been most rewarding. As a Designer, she strives to share her creativity with the world by offering her edgy and personal fashion style. With the long hours and hard work involved in a fast-paced industry, Lucy always has a smile on her face because her passion and love for animals, as well as her business, fuels her drive for success.
